Travellers from the United Kingdom and Canada will soon benefit from a significant policy change for travel to mainland China.
From 17 February 2026, holders of UK and Canadian passports will be permitted to travel to mainland China for up to 30 days visa-free.
Previously, most UK and Canadian travellers were required to obtain a visa before travelling to mainland China. Under the updated policy, eligible passport holders may now enter visa-free for short stays.
The current visa-free arrangement is scheduled to remain in effect until 31 December 2026, although government policies can change or be extended.
While visa requirements may be waived, travellers must still comply with immigration rules, permitted activities, and length-of-stay limits.
This change significantly simplifies short-term travel for UK and Canadian passport holders visiting mainland China in 2026.
However, visa policies are subject to adjustment. Travellers should always verify entry requirements before departure, particularly if travelling close to the end-of-year review period.
